Across Teesside and beyond, the public sector is investing in its people – and the Etc. is proud to be among the chosen apprenticeship providers making it happen.

Thirteen Group, a housing association that provides around 100,000 people in the North-East, Yorkshire and Humber region with homes, support and opportunities to grow, is no different.

At the Etc. we’re proud to have provided apprenticeships across the construction and business sectors of the organisation, as well as short commercial courses for upskilling for around 30 learners.

Stephanie Douglas, Emerging Talent Coordinator from Thirteen Group, shares her experience. She said: “Honestly, it’s been really positive. The team has been fantastic to work with – always helpful and clear, which made the whole process feel smooth. We’ve also had the added benefit of using rooms and facilities at Stockton Riverside College to support recruitment, along with lots of resources and staff helping with interview days.

“Whenever I had a question, I got quick and helpful answers, which made things stress-free. I felt supported from start to finish, and having a dedicated point of contact in Joanne Wallace has been amazing. Jo has worked tirelessly with me and others to make sure everything went smoothly, and that’s made a huge difference.”

Jessica, a 23-year-old plumbing and heating engineer apprentice, is loving every minute of her work with Thirteen. She said: “I saw the job advertised and I thought why not – you could say I started on a whim, not really sure what I wanted to do next!

“Honestly, I fell in love with the trade. Everyone has been so lovely, Steph is spot on and really looks after us, making sure we are supported and mentored. I’m part of a group of apprentices, working across trades in the organisation.”

Maddie, a business administration apprentice, chose an apprenticeship as she wanted to gain experience and qualifications at the same time as earning. She said: “My apprenticeship has made me more confident, independent and has vastly widened many working skills. These skills have impacted me both inside and outside of the business and I’m so grateful for everyone at Thirteen who helped me grow and improve as a person, especially as I started straight out of school.”
