Course: Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship
With almost five apprenticeships in total under his belt, Dominic is harnessing all his transferrable skills in his latest qualification, the Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship alongside CMI First Line Management. Starting as a business admin apprentice at Stockton Riverside College in 2018, Dominic’s decade of learning isn’t likely to lose momentum anytime soon.
Having recently secured a promotion to programme coordinator within Thirteen Group, he says his new role has increased responsibility, something he says he would not have had the confidence to even apply for had it not been for the team leader qualification.
He explained: “I am always applying my learning to real world situations in the workplace, something the teaching team heavily encourage. Learning how things should be in leadership and not just learning things because that’s how they’ve always been done is such a valuable skill to have. I’m passionate about getting the best from individuals as well as looking at the goals for the full organisation.”
What is particularly impressive is how Dominic has transferred his apprenticeship learning directly back into the workplace. This year he has been delivering training across Thirteen Group based on some of the management theory covered during his apprenticeship sessions, sharing his knowledge with colleagues and in turn, supporting the development of others across the organisation.
Business skills leader at Innersummit, Katy Maddison said: “The sessions Dominic has delivered have received positive feedback from his team and this has, quite rightly, been echoed to senior management. He is a fantastic example of the wider impact our programmes can have, and the importance of apprenticeships when it comes to upskilling existing teams in an organisation.”
Dominic described the teaching on the course as highly engaging, with interactivity encouraged and tutors applying learning to real life examples at every stage. He said: “Katy is an excellent tutor, she always answered my questions comprehensively and encouraging me to succeed. I’m not sure what’s next for me, but it’ll definitely include constant growth, and in my experience, apprenticeships are a brilliant way to do just that.”
As of September 2026, Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship is no longer a funded government standard. Innersummit offers ideal alternatives in the form of Level 4 Quality Practitioner Apprenticeship and Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship, alongside various CMI accredited leadership qualifications.
Thirteen Group is a housing association supporting around 100,000 people across the North East, Yorkshire and Humber. Every year, it invests millions to keep our homes safe, secure and well maintained.
